Case Study - Ashleys Chartered Accounts

Ashleys Chartered Accounts is a practice based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Shane White, a tax senior with the firm, gives his thoughts on Digita Corporation and Deferred Tax.

Shane's view

Having used Digita Corporation and Deferred Tax for the past few months, I have found the changeover from our previous corporation tax software incredibly easy. Although Digita was unable to offer a facility to transfer static client information from our old software, this did not prove to be a problem as entering new client details was quite easy, and it gave us the opportunity to ensure that all the information was correct.

The only other values that needed to be entered were the brought forward values for capital allowances and losses brought forward, which was easy enough as both sections are very comprehensive and easy to use. After starting the program, you have a number of options on the Open Company screen. You can either:

  • select a company from a list of the last five companies opened, or
  • type in the name of a new company, or
  • select a company using the filter box to narrow down the selection by typing in the first few letters of the company you wish to open.

Easy access

It is the easy and intuitive access to everything that has most impressed me, which is most notable when entering a new company. All you need to do is enter the name of the company in the 'Enter new company name' field, and press the ‘Go’ button. It then displays a new window that has tabs along the top to select each set of information for that client (Client Code, Address, References and Main Contact Details, first accounting period to be entered etc).

From there, you go to a new screen which gives you a summary of the company. This screen is very useful and provides access to all the information on the client (address, references and contact), and also access to the accounting periods you wish to process.

To produce a computation or CT600 it is just a case of clicking on the accounting period you wish to process, and then clicking on each accounts schedule shown on the left of the screen in turn, entering the appropriate figures in the schedules that are displayed. You can then mark each schedule as completed, which is reflected on the summary page. When all schedules are completed you know for sure that there is nothing you have missed.

Once all the schedules have been marked as completed, you are ready to preview the CT600 and tax computations. These are accessed by pressing the appropriate link on the right of the summary screen. If you are happy with the previews, then all that is left to do is press the print button - it really is that simple!

Entering details for Capital Allowances is also incredibly easy - you just enter the brought forward values and then put in any additions or disposals - if you have used Taxability Pro then you will be completely at ease with this part of the program. Digita Corporation and Deferred Tax deals with all the capital allowance categories you will need: Expensive car, ABA/IBAs, Information & Communications Technology, Short Life and Long Life and Main Pool amongst others.

I look forward to the new features that are to be added in future releases.

Conclusion

Having used Digita Corporation and Deferred Tax for the past few months, I have found the changeover from our previous corporation tax software incredibly easy. Entering new client details was easy and gave us the opportunity to ensure that all the information was correct. The ability to process CT600 and computations quickly and efficiently definitely makes this product a winner with my firm. I really would recommend this product to anyone - if you currently use a different corporation tax solution then give this a try, as I am sure you will find it hard to resist.
