Digita, the Exmouth based producer of tax and accounting software, has been acquired by Thomson International. Jerry Rihll, co-founder and managing director of Digita, is 'delighted to be joining forces with Thomson'.

Jerry founded Digita 21 years ago with Roger Thomas. In a letter to Digita customers, he says that they have been thinking deeply about succession, and while many organisations have approached them, they 'simply didn't share our vision or values'. He goes on to say that they 'feel truly honoured that Thomson can see the potential in Digita and want to support us as we take our business to the next level'.

Helen Owers, president and chief operating officer at Thomson International Legal & Regulatory, says that Digita's suite of software products has 'tremendous appeal and brand loyalty across the accountancy profession'. She adds that 'Digita's position has been built on investment in customer service and product development, and that is a culture that we are committed to in the future... we will continue to invest in Digita's product development'.

The acquisition builds on Thomson's recent acquisition of PowerTax in Australia, as well as its leading tax and accounting software and services portfolio in North America.

Jerry says that it is 'business as usual at Digita'. The business will continue to be based in Exmouth with the same employees and, while Roger will be stepping down from day to day operations, Jerry will continue in his current role.

Digita has won the 'Best tax software' category of the Taxation awards in 2007, 2006 and 2003, and has been nominated again in 2008.
